Preventing pollution

We are working to prevent the risk of pollution and safeguard natural habitats in the long term, especially aquatic ecosystems.

Preventing accidental pollution

We are committed to preventing all risk of accidental pollution that could harm the balance of the aquatic environment. This includes ensuring safe discharge of wastewater and rainwater, refurbishing pipes and manholes, technical and organisational improvements to chemical uploading operations, and monitoring the quality of groundwater.

Structural investments

More than 11 million euros were spent in 2024 on improving and securing our wastewater and rainwater treatment facilities, and reducing our water and energy consumption. One major project involves investment in a new sewage treatment plant at Ancenis, with direct discharge into the natural environment; the effluent was previously only pre-treated and discharged to the local treatment facility.

Water conservation

We are particularly committed to reducing our impact on water, as is the dairy sector as a whole. At Laïta we have reduced our water consumption by almost 20% since 2019 and are continuing our efforts. In 2025 we set out a plan to reduce water consumption across all our industrial sites, with the ambitious savings target of 25% by 2030, i.e. 800,000m³ of water. To achieve this, 16 million euros are being invested and all staff must adhere to a structured ‘5Rs’ approach: Refuse, Reduce, Recycle, Reuse, Release.

Having first set up a working group to look at packaging eco-design, we are now training our teams to analyse the life cycle and eco-design of products.
