Maintenance technician

With an advanced technician certificate in automated systems maintenance under his belt, Morgan started his first job as soon as he left college.

It’s a great job!

He was working on the Côtes-d’Armor but wanted to return to Finistère, so he applied for a job with our cooperative. By going back to his roots, he was able to indulge his passion for technology and stay motivated: "It’s a great job, although it does have its drawbacks, such as the early start, the 3x8 shift pattern and being on call. It’s never boring!"

Prevention and cure

A maintenance technician’s work is a bit like a doctor’s in that it involves both prevention and cure for lots of different machines, so forward planning is essential for maintenance operations: disassembly, cleaning, inspecting, greasing, emptying and routine parts replacement. "We’re conscious of the financial implications of even a minor breakdown. You have to be able to handle emergencies, work under pressure, and know how to handle people too, and stay calm. It’s quite a physical job and you should never lose sight of the personal safety aspect. That's a priority!"

It’s a great job and you never get bored. I’m constantly progressing with new machines, new technologies, new skills. You need regular training and you have to adapt all the time. The only automatic controls here are on the machines!

Enquiring and observant

Calm, watchful and perceptive; maintenance technicians have to be observant and have an enquiring mind; they also need initiative and an aptitude for finding solutions. If it’s routine you’re looking for, don’t apply! "This job is constantly evolving - new machines, new technologies, new skills needed. You need regular training and you have to adapt all the time. The only automatic controls here are on the machines!"

« What I like about the crepes unit is that it’s a ‘living’ product and there’s no routine. The cooking process, the consistency of the crepes, their visual appearance - everything has to be constantly monitored. The operator needs to have a feel for the product, finely-tuned adjustments are vital if you want a product that looks as good as it tastes! »
