Practical tools to welcome new entrants

Laïta has introduced a pedestrian signage system at its various sites, under the AIF programme (Accueil, Intégration et Formation - Reception, Integration, Training), to help staff find their way around. The initiative, designed by a working group set up for the purpose, responds to the need to offer greater independence and ensure safety and consistency in the approach to onboarding.

Signage to assist employees

This project was set up wholly in response to the aims of the AIF programme launched in 2022, the purpose of which is to provide support for all staff from the moment they join the company and throughout their professional development. To ensure new entrants receive a good welcome and quality induction, they need to get their bearings and find their way easily around the workshops and offices. However, we understand how hard it can be to navigate around our sites, so our objective was to make it easier and safer for new entrants to move around, give them some independence right from the start and make the visual elements consistent across all Laïta sites. To respond to this need, a working group was set up to improve the interior and exterior signage. We carried out a complete inventory, identified sites for priority action, estimated the number of signs we would need and met with a number of service providers to review their proposals for visual signage and quotes.

What issues were involved in the project?

There were three main concerns:

  • To ensure safety on early site visits: new arrivals should be able to find their way around safely from their first day on site, which means reducing the risk of accidents due to lack of awareness of traffic zones.
  • To improve autonomy for new arrivals: visual signage helps new arrivals to find their way around and consequently feel more comfortable in their new workplace.
  • To introduce standard signage across all Laïta sites: we worked on producing standard signage across all sites, in line with Laïta’s style requirements. We chose a colour scheme to enhance the visual consistency. This colour-coding system is intended to standardise and improve understanding of the signs and make it easier for new staff to get their bearings, especially those who might have difficulty reading or not fully understand the French language.

A project rolled out across all sites

Yffiniac was chosen as the pilot site for the project and was the first to have the new exterior signs installed. Feedback from staff was very positive. The visuals and colour scheme we opted for seem to appeal to them and meet their needs. The next stage will be implemented at the Lanfains site, where both exterior and interior signs will be installed. The wider roll-out across other Laïta sites will take into account their particular needs and priorities. A guide to implementing the signage has been produced for site representatives, to help them familiarise themselves with the process and take over the reins. Rules have been established to ensure all signs are consistent, although there is some flexibility for adapting them to local site requirements. If at the end of the project we’ve managed to introduce clear, effective signage across all Laïta sites, it can be considered a success.

This project is the result of a genuine team effort designed to deliver a good quality onboarding process which is smoother, safer and more consistent, across all our sites.
